Clallam County Correction Facility Inmate Lookup

Clallam County Correction Facility is the adult county jail for Clallam County and the first place to look up inmates after a local arrest. The facility handles pretrial custody, local sentenced custody, court holds, and jail services for people booked by county, city, and state law-enforcement agencies. A Clallam County jail search should start with the official roster, then move to phone, records, court, and notification channels when custody information is unclear or a person has already moved out of local jail custody.

Clallam County Correction Facility Overview

Clallam County Correction Facility is operated by the Clallam County Sheriff's Office under Sheriff Brian King. The jail is in downtown Port Angeles at 223 E 4th Street, Suite 20, near the county courthouse and other public-safety offices. It is a county jail, not a state prison. That distinction matters because recent arrests, pretrial detainees, municipal court commitments, Superior Court holds, and local jail sentences are searched through the county roster rather than the Washington State Department of Corrections locator.

The jail holds adults booked by the Clallam County Sheriff's Office, Port Angeles Police Department, Sequim Police Department, Forks Police Department, Washington State Patrol, municipal courts, Superior Court, and other agencies that use the county facility. A person arrested in Sequim, Forks, Port Angeles, or the West End may still appear under this jail when the booking is accepted locally. The public roster can show booking histories, court rows, charge descriptions, bond fields, release dates, scheduled release dates, and the housing facility label, but it does not replace the court record or the agency file.

The county's official Jail Facilities page gives local history that is useful for understanding the building. The jail was built from 1978 to 1979 and opened in 1980. It was originally designed for 72 inmates with a special detention unit. The facility now operates with 120 beds after the former special detention unit was remodeled into chain gang and inmate worker housing. The same county page notes that in 2009 the facility processed more than 3,000 bookings, ranging from minor-in-possession cases to Murder 1.

Clallam County Correction Facility Capacity and Population

The official jail page lists the current operating capacity as 120 beds. It also states that the original design capacity was 72 inmates plus a special detention unit. Current average daily population was not published in the official sources reviewed. The broad public roster results page showed 364 records on July 2, 2026, but that figure is not a jail population count because the results include old or noncurrent rows unless the In Custody filter is used and each result is reviewed.

For population work, treat the roster as an individual custody lookup tool rather than an official occupancy dashboard. The Sheriff's 2024 Annual Analysis excerpt said average daily inmate population remained relatively stable while use-of-force incidents increased from 2023 to 2024, but the accessible excerpt did not provide an exact ADP. If an exact daily count is needed, verify with jail records or a public records request instead of estimating from unfiltered roster totals.

How to Look Up an Inmate at Clallam County Correction Facility

Use the Clallam County Inmate Inquiry roster for adult county jail custody. The Tyler Technologies search form accepts name terms, subject number, booking number, booking date range, an In Custody filter, and a housing facility filter. For current jail custody, look for an In Custody value of "Yes" and a housing facility of Clallam County Correction Facility. A blank custody field or a different housing label may mean the person is not currently housed in the county jail.

  1. Open the official Clallam County Inmate Inquiry roster from the county jail page or the direct Tyler roster link.
  2. Search broadly by name first, or use the subject number or booking number if those are already known.
  3. Use the In Custody filter and confirm the housing facility before treating a result as a current jail inmate.
  4. Open the person's detail page to review booking history, bond rows, court rows, charge descriptions, release fields, and booking origin.

The roster search form is the correct online starting point for county jail custody, but it is not the only channel. Call the main jail at 360-417-2458 or jail records at 360-417-2360 when the online record is unclear. For records not shown online, use the Sheriff's Records Request page or the Clallam County NextRequest portal. For a person sentenced and transferred to prison, switch to the Washington DOC incarcerated search. For custody alerts, use Washington VINE.

Mail must be sent through USPS to the inmate's name at 223 East 4th Street, Suite 20, Port Angeles, WA 98362. The sender must include a return address with full name at the top of the first page. The jail accepts standard first-class one-ounce letters on white or yellow lined school or legal paper, with black or blue ink, up to ten pages and four photos per letter. Incoming mail is scanned and copied to plain white paper. Copies and photos are delivered to the inmate, while originals are placed into property until release.

Before depositing money, check the roster for the inmate's full booked name and jacket or subject number. The county commissary page states that family and friends must know those details, that they are available from the inmate or online roster, and that the jacket number is not given out over the phone.

Booking and Intake at Clallam County Correction Facility

A person arrested in Clallam County may be transported to this jail by the Sheriff's Office, Port Angeles Police, Sequim Police, Forks Police, Washington State Patrol, or another agency. At intake, custody staff create or associate a subject number, assign a booking number, record booking date and time, enter the booking origin, attach charges and court rows, and add bond or bail details when available. The public detail page can show multiple booking histories for the same person, so read dates and release fields carefully.

Bail is separate from the search roster. During court business hours, the county says bail payments must be made at the correct court, not at the jail, and the receipt must be brought to the jail lobby. After hours, cash bail uses the jail lobby intercom at the east side entrance of the courthouse, exact cash is required, and the jail does not make change. Online and phone bail use GovPayNet and require the inmate's full name, date of birth, bail amount, and jacket number.

About Clallam County Correction Facility

This facility is part of the Clallam County public-safety system and is closely tied to the county courthouse, Sheriff's Office records unit, District and Superior Court processes, and local prosecutor review. Booking charges on the roster are not always final filed charges. Court dates and filed documents should be checked through Clallam County Case or Name Search, Odyssey, Washington Courts, and the Clerk.

No booking photo was observed on inspected Clallam County public roster profiles. Washington's RCW 70.48.100 requires a public jail register but makes other jail records confidential except as allowed. For booking-related records outside the public roster, make a Sheriff's records request and expect redaction or denial where jail-record confidentiality applies.

Note: Confirm custody, entrance, visitor approval, and visit times with the jail before driving to Port Angeles.
